KTS technology to support energy efficiency and competitiveness at Alpek’s Suape PTA facility.
Koch Technology Solutions (KTS), the technology licensing business of Koch Engineered Solutions, today announced that Alpek Polyester Pernambuco S.A. has signed a license agreement with KTS for an energy efficiency retrofit at its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) facility in Suape, Brazil.
The project is expected to reduce steam consumption and improve site competitiveness, supporting Alpek’s focus on operational excellence and energy efficiency.
The Suape plant was built using KTS-licensed technology under its previous ownership. This new agreement extends that longstanding technology relationship and follows Alpek’s award of a technical services contract, related to a Catalyst Recovery Upgrade project, to KTS in November 2025. Nearly two decades after the plant’s original licensing, the project reflects the long-term value of collaboration between KTS and its customers, helping facilities adapt to changing market demands through ongoing innovation, performance improvements and operational support.
The steam reduction project follows completion of a feasibility study conducted by KTS. The project will now advance to the Process Design Package (PDP) phase.
Ilja Orlov, PTA Business Leader, Koch Technology Solutions, said:
“This project demonstrates KTS’s ability to create value by developing mutually beneficial solutions that help our customers achieve their business and sustainability objectives. I am proud of the strong partnership between Alpek Polyester and KTS, and excited to see the significant improvements in energy efficiency this project will deliver at Alpek’s PTA plant in Brazil, enhancing both its environmental performance and economic competitiveness.”
Rodrigo Pontual, Technology Manager, Alpek Polyester Pernambuco, said:
“This initiative represents an important step in Alpek’s strategy to improve energy efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of our Suape PTA facility. We value our long-standing relationship with KTS and trust their expertise to help us deliver meaningful reductions in steam consumption while supporting our operational and sustainability goals”
